Youth and Citizenship Project: A meeting place Spaces to educate and protect youth
Abstract
This report discusses the Youth and Citizenship Project: A Meeting Place (Projeto Juventude e Cidadania: Ponto de Encontro), developed in 2004 as part of the Municipal Secretariat of Education's Objectives Plan. The following were established as major themes: the principle of the Educating City, intersectoral nature of municipal public policies at the city hall level, and formation of a social protection network in this space. The Meeting Place is a location for teen and youth interaction with intentionally planned situations, comprised of a set of differently themed, cultural, and management and oversight workshops and workshops to formulate community intervention projects. The report discusses the proposal, material and methodology as well as implementation and assessment of the project. The intent is to implement training of groups of young people at each of the 21 Unified Educational Centers (Centros Educacionais Unificados – CEUs) outside of regular classroom hours. Adhesion was complete, including participation from professionals at the Education, Sports and Culture Centers and effective participation of community representatives from the CEU Managing Council, in addition to local leaders and social educators. The text concludes that evidence of the project's good reception can be found in the various professional segments that identified the potential for development of a significant proposal with young people at the Meeting Place, within their own context of educational work.
